Àse (pronounced "Ah-Shay") is an ancient Yoruba word that means the energy to transform and change. Àse Behavioral Health and Wellness, PLLC (ABHW) was founded with the goal of providing evidence-based, trauma-informed, and holistic interventions to break the toxic cycles, learn new skills, and create healthier relationships. We value compassion, respect, and integrity.
Our mission is to strengthen and empower families, individuals and communities through accessible emotional wellness services, holistic wellness services, education, and advocacy.
Our vision is to create communities in which healthy relationships are defined by self-awareness and a commitment to accountability in order to make positive changes in their lives.
ABHW services includes prevention education, wellness services, and training/consultation services.
Battering is a repeated use of strategic behaviors — from menacing looks to physical violence — that help to establish control over another person over a period of time. These are behaviors that can be controlled, and the Battering Intervention & Prevention Program can help. Our program is certified by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and has been shown to be effective in reducing domestic violence recidivism rates.
Unlike BIPP, Family Violence covers a range of behaviors committed by individuals who are not in an intimate relationship but may still encounter violence within their family dynamics. All the behaviors aim to control a family member through fear and abuse.
Anger is a natural emotion you experience when something doesn’t go as planned or someone contradicts what you think is “right.” People of all ages and personalities experience anger, but how we respond to it varies greatly from person to person. No More Rage provide hands-on ways to deal with your anger so you can have positive relationships and strategies to handle conflict in a healthy way.
A parent’s love and care are critical to the development of healthy children. Our Accountable and Loving Parenting Program are offered to give parents an opportunity to take a historical look at their parental responsibilities and relationships; and consider options for their behaviors that could improve their relationships with their children. Our goal is to help make a difference in the day-to-day lives of families.
When people experience trauma or severe life stressors, it is not uncommon for their lives to unravel. We are passionate about bringing healing to people who have been through traumatic or stressful experiences. We help our clients, who include individuals and couples, to find a healthy view of themselves and strengthen their relationships so they can become peaceful, whole, and safe.
Mindful Whole Nutrition draws from the belief that food is not only energy source, but medicine for the body. Hippocrates once quoted, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. This behavioral nutrition consultation takes into account various combinations of food, herbs, and nutrients to help individuals achieve optimal emotional wellness. Its benefits should not be deduced to “eating a balanced meal”.
Dr. Tonya Peavy Mays, Psy.D. provides a deeper look into food and its connection to mental wellness in her book "Feed Your Brain: A guide to Eating for Optimal Mental Health".
